In the village of Bomarzo, Near town of Viterbo, it is a natural park decorated with statues and sculptures dating from the sixteenth century representing monsters, demons and ancient gods. This is the famous “Monster Park“, which is also known as “Sacred Grove” to date one of the most mysterious and popular tourist attractions in the area. Built in the mid-1500s by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini by the architect Pirro Ligorio, he was dedicated to his wife Giulia Farnese. The park was decorated with numerous statues by the grotesque style depicting mythological characters is horrendous figures such as dragons, orcs and exotic animals that represent the most characteristic element of the garden.
One of the most mysterious and bizarre construction of the park is the ” temple ” a building that was built about twenty years after the original structure in honor of the second wife of Prince Orsini, and that structurally resembles a pagan temple. Outside the building are visible signs of the zodiac arranged in the Solar System while many symbols linked to the esoteric world are visible both inside and outside the building. flickr/carlo manni
Inside the park there is also the famous “Leaning House” a tower construction which owes its name to the strange project that was built. The house is in fact leaning to one side as if the designer had wanted to further affect the hearts of the visitors that taste of the grotesque and the bizarre that it is the true symbol of Monster Park.
