For a long time sharpening a set of assumptions, how could a man of small stature and body build Coral Castle from huge blocks of coral limestone, which, without anyone’s help dragged from the coast, and then of them make sculptures and part of the castle. All this made the native of Latvia Edward Leedskalnin, who came to America after an unhappy and unrequited love for a certain 16-year-old Agnes Skaffs. Edward Leedskalnin born January 12, 1887 in Valka parish Stamerskoy County Livonia of the Russian Empire (now Stāmeriena parish Gulbenskogo Territory of Latvia). About his childhood, little is known, other than the fact that he was not rich and only reached a fourth-grade education. At the age of 26 years, he became engaged to Agnes Skaffs, woman ten years younger than him. However, the girl Leedskalnin called his “Sweet Sixteen”, broke the engagement the night before their wedding.
Frustrated Latvian, struck to the heart, he throws home. And in search of soothing the soul goes wandering around the world. As a result, he emigrated to North America, where he found work in timber camps in Canada, California and Texas. There he fell ill with tuberculosis, and later moved to the warmer climate of Florida around 1919, where he bought a small plot of land for $ 12. And for 20 years in this place built the castle without using even a primitive hammer – all the tools he made from the remains of an abandoned car. How Edward moved and lifted multi-ton blocks, it remains a mystery: he was very secretive, and worked only at night. flickr/Barry Haynes
Coral Castle of Edward Lindskalnin consists of various architectural structures aligned and hewn out of limestone coral. These include: a two-storey square tower weighing 243 tons, different structure, massive walls, an underground swimming pool with a spiral staircase, stone map of Florida , roughly hewn chairs, a table in the form of heart, accurate sundial stone Mars and Saturn, as well as the 30-ton per month , its horn accurately pointing to the North star, and much more. The total weight of all the buildings is – 1,100 tons, they are located on an area of over 40 hectares. It is impossible to imagine how such gigantic boulders to his castle alone could carry a small (152 cm, 45 kg) and weak-looking Edward.
Which way he was able to move such heavy boulders to his coral castle and could not figure out until now, he has worked exclusively at night. In their possession “gloomy Ed” blew reluctantly, he grew silent behind the uninvited guest and stood in silence until it was removed. as Edward himself once said – “I have discovered the secret of the pyramid-builders”. And indeed, the locals, Edward neighbors told us that his coral stones flew through the air!
When the next set out to build a villa energetic lawyer from Louisiana, Edward simply moved their offspring to another location, 10 miles to the south, to a place in the 10 acres near Homestead. Interestingly, when he ordered a truck to transport, then a short time he plunged heavy “product” and no one I saw how the same way it did. Even the driver of the truck, Edward hired to deliver the stone, kept in the dark about the method of download. He went behind the car, when the work of loading and unloading the stone had already been completed.
When the door consists of a huge stone has ceased to be opened, it hardly managed to pull off a huge crane, and discovered that Edward Leedskalnin drilled right in the center 3 meter blocks of perfectly smooth opening along the entire length, 5 centimeters in diameter, and passed through a metal rod with bearings. Even in modern times would require a powerful laser to drill a hole. Thus, the mystery of the construction and transportation of Coral Castle has remained unsolved.
